Create my accountHistory & Origin
T he history of the Yorkipoo begins in the United States in the late 1980s, during a period when enthusiasm for "designer" dogs was at its peak. Passionate breeders sought to combine the best qualities of two beloved breeds: the liveliness and bold character of the Yorkshire Terrier, and the remarkable intelligence as well as the hypoallergenic nature of the Poodle.
The goal was clear: to create a small companion dog that was hypoallergenic, intelligent and well-balanced, suited to modern families living in apartments.
The Yorkshire Terrier, born in the mines of northern England in the 19th century, brings to the mix its courage, loyalty and terrier instinct. The Poodle, recognized as one of the most intelligent breeds in the world, contributes its gentle nature, adaptability and low-shedding coat.
The Yorkipoo's popularity soared in the 2000s, carried by the wave of "doodles" and hybrid breeds that appealed to an ever-growing audience.
Unlike established breeds, the Yorkipoo does not have a fixed official standard: each litter can produce puppies with varied appearances, making each individual unique and endearing in its own way.
Today, the Yorkipoo is not recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale, nor registered with the LOF in France. However, it is listed by our club, the world's first registry dedicated to designer and hybrid breeds.
Its growing popularity among families and seniors reflects its increasing success across all continents.
The FBKC officially recognizes the Yorkipoo: register your dogs, obtain a 4-generation pedigree and manage your breeding program with our modern tools. Greater freedom for professional breeders.
Description
The Yorkipoo is a small bundle of energy and affection that captures hearts at first sight. A cross between the Yorkshire Terrier and the Toy or Miniature Poodle, this compact companion dog combines the terrier's bold spirit with the Poodle's gentle nature in a miniature package that typically does not exceed 10 pounds.
The body is well-proportioned, featuring a round head with a fine muzzle, soft drop ears reminiscent of the Poodle, and dark, expressive eyes that radiate intelligence.
The tail, carried high and slightly curved, gives this breed a proud and lively appearance. The compact yet sturdy build often surprises those who expect a fragile dog.
The coat is one of its most appealing features: depending on genetic heritage, it may be wavy to curly like the Poodle's, or silky and straight like the Yorkshire Terrier's.
Colors are remarkably varied: black, white, cream, gold, apricot, chocolate, gray, as well as absolutely charming bicolor and tricolor patterns. Good news for allergy-sensitive families: the Yorkipoo is a low-shedding breed.
In terms of temperament, this little companion is as spirited as it is affectionate. Playful and curious, it loves exploring its surroundings, participating in family activities, and snuggling on its favorite human's lap.
A big-hearted dog, perfectly suited to apartment living as well as a home with a yard.

Common Conditions
Like many toy breeds, this cross occasionally exhibits some sensitivity in the knee joint, known as patellar luxation. Regular veterinary monitoring allows for early detection of this condition and appropriate adjustment of physical activity to alleviate any discomfort.
The small size of the jaw may sometimes promote tartar accumulation, requiring particular attention to maintain good dental health. Occasional minor ocular sensitivity may also be observed, necessitating appropriate eye care. Fortunately, the conscientious efforts of dedicated breeders have helped significantly reduce the occurrence of these minor health concerns.
